I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is to support you and work alongside you in a respectful way.
I am not qualified to diagnose medical or psychiatric conditions. If assessment or diagnosis is required, I will refer you to an appropriate health professional such as a GP or psychiatrist.
code of ethics
As a Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) I follow the core values, ethical principles and guidelines set out in the New Zealand Association Counselling Code of Ethics (NZAC 2020). If you would like to see a copy of this code of ethics I can provide one.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Our counselling sessions will be confidential, kept between you and I.
I will not share your private information with anyone else unless you tell me I can. However, there may come a time when I need to share something we have discussed, for example, if I think you are about to hurt yourself or be hurt by someone else. If this is the case, I would do my best to make an opportunity to discuss it with you first. I may also talk to my supervisor about the my concerns.
